If you’re looking to celebrate Samhain in style this year, then look no further than these Halloween Fright Nights and Scare Fests! Normally providing their thrills through roller coasters and too much cotton candy, these theme parks have gone all out to give you extra chills this October.
I’ve put together a top 6 of the best Halloween attractions across Europe in 2022, full of horrifying haunted houses, breathtaking shows, and terrifying rides in the dark.
Walibi | Fright Night | The Netherlands
Fright Night at Walibi is one of the best European Halloween events, with sections of the theme park decked out in full Halloween theme, scare actors roaming the park trying to scare you senseless, and haunted houses, walkthroughs and experiences to explore.
There’s plenty to do this year, from joining the team of butchers at the Slaughterhouse, to wandering through the abandoned Camp of Curiosities, or venturing into the witchy Wicked Woods.
There is no minimum age limit for the Walibi Halloween Fright Nights, but it is recommended for people aged 16 and over. There is a ‘Spooky Days’ experience for children aged between 6-12 during the day.
Dates: 8/9 Oct, 15/16 Oct, 20-23 Oct, 27-30 Oct 2022
Opening hours: 10am – 11pm, Fright Night starts at 6pm

Thorpe Park | Fright Night | United Kingdom
Thorpe Park’s Halloween event, Fright Night, is celebrating its 21st birthday with scare mazes, scare zones and awe-inspiring shows, including three brand-new scare attractions alongside thrilling rides in the dark, like the world’s first horror movie theme rollercoaster SAW – The Ride, and post-apocalyptic The Swarm.
Dare to knock on Death’s Doors to discover their sinister secrets, trek through fields of corn and hope you go unnoticed by the cursed villagers, or enjoy a pyrotechnical show like no other.
If you need a break from all the scares, there are exclusive spooky snacks sold from street stalls around the park, from vampire cupcakes to pumpkin pie.
The Fright Night attractions are recommended for ages 13 and up, but rides are open as usual.

Alton Towers | Scarefest | United Kingdom
It’s the 15th anniversary of Alton Tower’s award-winning Scarefest, and they’re providing some truly hair-raising attractions this year to celebrate.
With three of Alton Tower’s scare mazes returning in 2022, will you be brave enough to venture into The Attic, where people say the ghost of the Governess seeks revenge? Perhaps you want to board The Mutiny instead, for an adventure into the Darkest Depths, or investigate the Skin Snatchers in Altonville Mine Tours.
Or you can stick to the rides, such as the burning Wicker Man, or the plague-ridden boat ride through the Alton Towers Dungeon. It’s probably safer.
Dates: 19-31st October
Opening hours: 10am – 9pm
Alton Towers Scarefest Tickets: €48pp

Movie Park | Halloween Horror Festival | Germany
Movie Park’s Fright Night takes you to the dark side of Horrorwood Studios, where demons and zombies have forged a terrifying new pact.
Visit the Acid Rain scare zone, where survivors have come together in a post-apocalyptic world to celebrate life, or take a stroll down the Horrorwood Boulevard, where the Circus of Freaks lurks. And did we hear a rumour about the Wild West ghost town being built on an old Indian graveyard? Maybe that’s where all those screams are coming from…
Dates: 19-31st October, 1, 4, 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 November 2022

Parc Astérix | Fear in the Park | France
Parc Astérix Halloween’s Fear in the Park sees the entire place transformed into a permanent show that revolves around terrifying creatures, complete with monsters that parade through the park every evening. Explore the mysterious ghost ship, The Sirius, that disappeared in 1932 but has just reappeared in the park’s docks! Or take a tour through the catacombs, where the dead don’t always stay dead.
For more entertainment, you can go on an expedition to the stars to search for the lost crew on a strange planet, or attend the ‘Magna Maleficus’ magic show, where we can only hope nobody actually gets cut in half! You can also visit the museum of Le Havre, which has just received a collection of Ancient Egyptian artifacts. Unfortunately some evil spirits were released during inventory, but it will be fine, right?
If you feel peckish, you can book to eat at the restaurant, which has been turned into a buffet of horror full of unusual encounters and scary animations.
