Both Germany and Hungary are offering a great deal for travelers in 2024 – unlimited all-you-can-travel train passes for only €49! It’s not sure how long the offer will last however, so snap up the deal as soon as you can to take advantage!
Germany
The Deutschlandticket, or ‘Germany Ticket’, allows you to travel as many times as you like on any regional public transport routes across pretty much the whole country for €49 a month.
You can also head to stations in neighbouring countries as long as the train is operated by a German operator, including Tønder in Denmark, Wissembourg in France, Basel in Switzerland, and Świnoujście in Poland.
However, it doesn’t cover long-distance routes, such as Berlin to Cologne or Frankfurt, on any trains operated by DB Fernverkehr AG (RE included) and FlixTrain (IC, EC, and ICE).
Hungary
The ‘National Travel Card’ in Hungary enables you to travel on every train and bus line in the country for €49 a month, as long it’s operated by MÁV-START, MÁV-HÉV, GYSEV, or Volánbusz.
It’s available to be purchased from more than 1,000 ticket machines in Hungary. Find the nearest MÁV-START, GYSEV, or Volánbusz office in any train station, or simply a vending machine, and select the card.
The pass cannot be used on regional public transportation, however you can also purchase a ‘County Travel Card’ for around €25 that gives you unlimited bus and rail travel within 1 of its 19 counties.
