Entry Requirements
If you are an EU or UK national and own a valid passport, you are able to stay in Lithuania for up to 90 days.
Coronavirus
Passengers arriving in Lithuania currently do not need to show proof of COVID vaccination, a negative COVID test, or a certificate of recovery from COVID.
VISA
All non-EU citizens that intend to travel to Lithuania need to apply for a VISA. You can read more information on the requirements and whether you need to apply for one here.
ETIAS Waiver
From Mid-2025, visitors that do not need a visa to enter Europe will need to register with ETIAS. ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) will become a mandatory entry requirement.
European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
If you’re entering the EU as a UK resident, you can apply for an EHIC. It is completely free, and entitles you to essential medical care during a temporary stay in Europe.

When to visit
The best time to visit Lithuania is between the months of April and September, when the weather is warmer, but as most people travel during the Summer, Springtime is the better time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds.
Getting around in Lithuania
With the Vilnius pass, you can visit museums for free, get discount on top attractions, and more. A 72-hour Vilnius Pass including a public transport ticket costs €61. You can also purchase 24 and 48-hour versions. You can check the full list of advantages and prices here.
Trains
Trains are run by LTG Link in Lithuania, and among other cities, you can travel from Vilnius to Kaunas, Klaipėda, and Šiauliai by train. You can purchase tickets and check timetables online here.
Buses
Buses and trolleybuses in Vilnius run from around 5:30am to 11pm. You can check their timetables here.
E-tickets for public transport in Vilnius (purchased through the Trafi app) cost €0.65 for 30 minutes and €0.90 for 60 minutes. You can get 1, 2, and 10-day passes for €5, €8 and €15. You can also purchase a ticket directly from the driver, which costs €1 for a one-way trip.
Taxis
Taxis are reasonably expensive in Lithuania, and the drivers are known to rip-off foreign tourists by overcharging them. It’s recommended to avoid travelling by taxi unless you’ve no other choice.
Luggage storage
In Vilnius, there are storage lockers located in the main train station. There are small, medium, and large sized lockers, which cost €2, €3, and €4 respectively for 12 hours. The maximum storage time is 7 days.
There is also a storage service for luggage at Vilnius Airport. The service is run by UAB Baltic Ground Services, and it costs €5 per piece of luggage per day to store.

You will need a Type C or F 2-pin system adapter for plugs in Lithuania. Lithuania operates on a 230V supply voltage & 50Hz.

Generally, public toilets cost a small fee to use, so it’s worth carrying around a little pocket change in case you cannot pay by card.

There are lots of free wi-fi spots in Lithuania. Look for it in places like museums, parks, cafes and other public locations.
Is tipping expected in Lithuania?
When tipping, it’s normal to add a 5-15% tip to the total bill. Check a service charge hasn’t been added to the bill before tipping however.

Are there are venomous or dangerous animals in Lithuania?
There is some dangerous wildlife in Lithuania, including the venomous Adder snake, and bigger animals such as wolves and moose. Always research the area you’re travelling to, to see if there’s anything there that might pose a threat to you.
